Okay, in response to a friend who recently saw this movie and came out rather upset that no one else inside the theater shared in her excitement as Denzel murdered evildoers with precision and ease, I will convey my thoughts.
First of all: Yell all you want Lynn G. If you feel the feeling, express yourself. Reactions to great scenes of action and suspense don’t annoy people. Annoying people annoy people; so don’t suppress your excitement out of courtesy for the numb. Movies are meant to entertain and excite a feeling. Those dullards in the auditorium with you were probably too wrapped up in thinking about tomorrows workload than taking themselves away for two hours to fully immerse their imagination into the world being depicted on the screen before them.
“The most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.”Mark Twain
Secondly: The Equalizer is NOT Man on Fire. Yes, he kills many people and struts away from a raging inferno but that is neither here or there. In this particular scene the character in question enacted his plot in the cold of night. He wasn’t wearing sunglasses like some douche bag in da club or a rapper with crooked eyes or wearing a nicely tailored suit. Although he could worn glasses and allowed the viewer watched his spoils melt away in their reflection, however that would be cheesy… right? No, Robert Mccall was unable relish in his triumph because he had flames licking at his boot heels and there was at least thirty more minutes of movie to burn. Also, he used gasoline and not an explosive thing-ma-jig to set blaze to an entire shipyard of a Russian drug lords illegal fun time goodies and not just some lone vehicle registered under some Mexican kidnappers mamas name.
