Nowadays Jodi Foster gets a bad rap for her views on almost everything. One would think that when you watch a movie directer by Foster it would be something that is overly saturated with subjective meaning and social messaging. I cannot say that Money Monster is not that type of film, because it is. However, it does attempt to hide the fact that the plot is to disclose the nature of media consumption and the outlets which provide the fervor to sensationalize our darkest tragedies for only a short amount of time before it’s on to the next headline story.
Money Monster showcases the positive and negative influences news outlets can have on the viewing public. The power of perception often goes unnoticed, and when it’s brought to the forefront of conversation, people often decry it as senseless rhetoric from the persona delivering the message, and this goes even without even considering it’s validity.
Foster was able to take something as boring as stock tips and insider trading and made it entertaining in the Hollywood sense. Meaning she make it interesting by successful enveloping the concept into a thriller plot.
Money Monster is a great directorial accomplish for Foster who some most would consider a risky investment only based on the fact that she has been so outspoken about many social injustices that plague our society and the Hollywood industry. Money Monster showcase Foster’s filmic knowledge and understand as to how to control the plot by unfolding the petals of the storyline beat by beat and without the overuse of an expositional narrative.
Here’s The Rub
A distraught young man who loses his money in the stock market takes a television personality hostage in search for answers and an apology.
What To Expect
Expect to see George Clooney and Julie Roberts in the glory that is their omnipresence. The two Ocean 11 stars are really just enjoying working alongside one another with Jodi Foster to whom they have much respect for as a director.
Clooney and Roberts just make acting seem so easy in this movie. They weren’t great performance but then again they kind of are. Clooney and Roberts just seem to be having fun and that’s what it’s all about: enjoying what you love to do so that it seems effortless.
It’s Worth Mentioning
There is a GOTCHA moment in this film that really just made me scream out WHAT THA FUCK! No spoilers here though. Watch it for yourself.
