Tech Tip: Powerline

Powerlines also come in multiple versions. Some Powerlines have Pass-through ports that allow you to plug other devices into the Powerline so it’s not just eating up a spot on the outlet. Powerlines also have the ability to act as WiFi access points or WiFi extenders. The best connection you can get is a straight connection from your device to your modem or router but if you find running network cables a pain and WiFi unreliable at times I would recommend giving Powerlines a chance. Also Powerlines are capable of reaching speeds that are better than WiFi but as I stated before that all depends on multiple variables.
Powerlines starter kits can be found anywhere from $29-$90 on Amazon. Cnet.com recommends the TRENDNet Powerline 500 AV2 Adapter, thewirecutter.com recommends the ZyXEL 600 Mbps Powerline AV2 Gigabit Adapter Kit, and the Powerline that I’ve personally experimented with is the TP-LINK TL-PA6010KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter Starter Kit.
